The U.S. Army, 40th Signal Battalion. My company is the U.S. Army, 40th Signal Battalion based in sunny Ft. Huachuca, AZ, USA. We've developed our intranet site using Windows NT 4.0 Server, Apache 1.3.12, PHP 4.0, UDMSearch, and Interbase 6.0. We chose to use Interbase because of it's new open source standings. When I took over as the webmaster we were using IIS 4.0, ASP, Index Server, and Access Databases to generate our dynamic pages, but with the recent security bugs effecting IIS, I chose to migrate to open source software. I wanted to use software that's portable, easy to move to a different operating environment, and most of all viewable source code. The intranet site is called "The Team 40th WorkWeb", it's currently in development but when finished it will supply custom content, including calendars, news, web discussions, electronic versions of common forms, and other office collaboration tools, to over 300 users. This is done with the combined power of all these open tools, with Interbase playing an integral part of this operation. We could have chosen a number of other database solutions, but Interbase was chosen because of it's open source, multi-platform availability, and support from 3rd party software vendors.Sincerely,
