An IB tree.

In December 14, 1999, IB came to a grinding halt (see the roadmap for a broad vision). The news leaked out in Dec-17. Nobody knew what would happen with the engine for sure, the most common rumor being that it would be discontinued. The missile couldn't be worse, since the third beta CD of IB had been burned but only a few people received it and it was expected that the official release would happen in February.

Many people had been the hopes in the new version that offered better or new features, so the decision to look for another, alternative engine or remain with the limitations of IB5.X wasn't easy. In this context, I created my site and the only and first page was this image for Christmas. I polished it some time after, since I don't feel attractive the original color of the (non original) icon used by IB on Windows.

At that time, IB was tagged as the "embedded database", so this explains the text at the bottom of the image. It's incredible how in a few months, the long time "embedded" concept as a marketing tag lost strength and today, almost nobody mentions it. Clearly, IB is more than an embedded database engine for turnkey applications.
