Features in IB 6.0 = kinobi.If IB5.X life was troublesome due to technical issues, IB6.0 birth has been plagued of financial, legal and personal issues. The new release of the 15 years old engine (1985-2000) began closed beta testing under NDA in the middle of 1999. It was slated to be another commercial release, with licenses per seat an also a separate Internet license, with the typical low-profile sales effort Borland gave to the product since IB5 appeared. Nobody could have predicted accurately in 1999 the boiler that exploded internally in December 14, 1999 and whose existence leaked out on December 17: five employees resigned, including the Director of the product. At least two other people were reassigned to other duties, wrking on other product inside Borland. Hence, IB development was stalled for several months, until in July 25, 2000, Borland released its former closed, binary engine as an open source project for the community, but lacking important pieces of the puzzle, some of them were posted in the subsequent days in the web site. In August 2000, the three well-known, long time support engineers left the company. Borland still holds that IB will be supported in the future. The internal name of IB6 is The paragraph above is the explanation from Dave Schnepper. Now, my interpretation: Interbase doesn't come with rebate coupons. It doesn't throw ActiveX in the system. It doesn't monitor the CPU temperature. It doesn't include a CD-audio with your favorite singer's work. Interbase is a C/S relational db for small and medium companies. Period.
