What are the features that make Interbase different than the competition?

First, let me state I might have written "better than the competition", but I decided to start killing bigotry. If you think you have found your best database engine for absolutely all tasks and it's not Interbase, then don't waste time reading here. I won't try to sell you a product you don't need. I'm not a salesman but an engineer working as a developer and consultant. I'm assembling these pages for people like me, who want to use the product that best matches each requirement, if possible. You can also read the official overview in the Interbase's official website.

I've came to the conclusion that it's troublesome for me and for the readers to put every possible piece of information in this page, so I decided to break it into smaller chunks. Note the features are cumulative, namely, I only put in IB5.X the ones that are newer than the ones in IB4.X.

Features in IB 4.X.

Features in IB 5.X.

Features in IB 6.0, also known as kinobi.

Features proposed for IB 6.X or IB 7.0.

This separation seems to provide a natural ordering. While some IB 3.X versions are still sold for platforms that are no longer supported, IB 4.2 is used in several platforms, including Windows, even if the official version is IB5.6 at April of 2000. Also, as it happens with all SW, if some individuals or companies doesn't see the need for the new versions, even if they are free, it's unlikely they will want to make testing efforts to upgrade.
