Performance monitoring. The command line utility named iblockpr (gds_lock_print on UNIX) was offered for the Windows platform (still as a console program) to monitor performance by checking the lock requests that IB manages. The equivalent in Server Manager for IB5 is the menu option The most useful option seems to be -w, since it prints a listing of all entities that own locks as well as wait statistics for each owner, so the output helps to discover who is blocking who due to conflicting requests. Personally, I think the output of the command is easier to follow in Classic than in SuperServer, since one entry is for process and in the case of SuperServer, there's only one process for all users. Anyway, the output for me is still too cryptic to be useful at first glance. |
