ODS compatibility and server versions.

    On Mers, Dmitry Kuzmenko posted this information. It's accurate to the extent I've been able to test, so I'm reproducing it here:

IB version ODS can work with UPGRADES
4.0 8.0 8.0 -

5.0/5.1 9.0 8.2 8.0 => 8.2
5.5 9.1 8.2 8.0 => 8.1, 9.0 => 9.1
5.6 9.1 8.2 8.0 => 8.1, 9.0 => 9.1

I'm not sure only in 4.2. Maybe it does not upgrade 8.0 to 8.2 during first connection to database. Don't remember.

To continue with Dmitry's table, IB6 beta didn't know how to deal with any ODS previous to its own, ODS10. This was a departure from the classic backward compatibility that always IB exhibited. Hence, the official released version is bigger than the beta3 because it includes the code in v5, so it can talk with earlier ODS version without forcing an upgrade by means of backup and restore. As always, to keep things as smooth as possible, I would backup and restore with IB6 so the ODS can be upgraded to version 10. Later, Borland changed mind and wiped out support for previous ODS versions. Therefore, the table for IB6 would be:
