Interbase's practical limits.
If you want to know IB's theoretical limits, then please read IB upper limits in the Interbase's official website. I will try to not keep duplicate information.
Here, I want to comment about practical limits, namely, the biggest installations known to date. You are welcome to submit your huge projects, too. I will fill in more information as it is available.
This information came from Bill Karwin, former Director of Interbase Products, on January 19, 2000:
-
I corresponded with a customer in Brazil who claimed to have a little bit less than 200 gigabytes in one database. Of course it had over 90 files. He said that it was growing rapidly, so I suppose it could certainly be over 250GB by now.
InterBase's theoretical maximum is 32TB I believe.
As for number of users, I believe our tech support team helped a customer using InterBase 4.0 on a huge AIX server with about 600 concurrent users. It took some very careful design in their applications to be as gentle as possible when it came to demands on the database server.
So when I think my small clients still don't exhaust their 4 GB and 8 GB hard disks, I know I have plenty of space for growing in the upcoming years.
